A number of transportation risk management situations may require a rapid evaluation of the basic hazard, in order to check whether the assigned case represents a real hazard and needs further analysis or not, or to discriminate between alternative transportation modalities. The use of generalized approaches and of simplifying assumptions allows to reach this objective with a reasonable computational effort. An example is given for a case of ammonia transportation.
