Electrochromic devices are characterized by their ability to exhibit reversible and persistent changes of the optical properties under the action of electrical fields. In the automotive sector, such devices are of interest for variable-transmittance glazings, antidazzling mirrors, and information display elements. This paper discusses materials, design concepts, and applications (especially to high-transmittance glazings).
