To verify existing standard durability and quality test programs in practical use on engine testbeds road data in the top speed range on German Autobahnen have been generated with seven different types of vehicles and ten different engines. Data were logged and classified during all driving conditions: constant speed, acceleration, deceleration, overrun and gear shift. The thus acquired map data were then evaluated with respect to common to all effects and possible general applicability. Valuable contributions could be made for the updating and renewing process of existing engine test programs on testbeds. Selected engine speed- and load map data are presented in this article. Overrun conditions as a peculiar feature of the road investigations are demonstrated as well.
