All over Europe there exists solitary operating public piece goods collection and delivery services, which are rather low cost. Integrating them, so as to achieve the global scale, has an enormous potential to support industrial logistic developments, and offers opportunities to service providers as well as their clients. However, not all public services are equally reliable and responsive, as modern logistics requires. The IDEAS project aims to improve local services and to interconnet any collection service to any delivery service. The ideal is that when collection and delivery are located in different areas of Europe, the service parameters are basically the same as when it would have concerned collection and distribution in one area only. The project started with a real case analyses of public services. The conditions, requirements and an architecture for an integrated service based on the case analyses will be discussed.
