The object of this paper is to show up the advantages regarding the use of several high speed diesel engines of same power and same speed coupled on the same main shaft and driving generators for the auxiliaries on board. For the first time a fishing-smack on high-sea with an output of 1000 HP has been equipped with four high-speed diesel engines with turbochargers 250 HP each at 1250 revs./min coupled on same reducing gear and assuring the propulsion of the ship and the driving of auxiliaries generators and electrical motors for the fishing-winch. The whole plant includes four high-speed turbocharging diesel engines 250 HP each coupled on the same reducing gear box driving one sole main shaft, which drives a reversible propeller. Generators are inserted between the diesel engines 'head-end' and the reducing gear box; the above generators are connected to this latter by electro-magnetic clutches. The diesel engines 'crack-end' are connected to the reducing gear box by identical clutches. This whole plant permits the driving of the main shaft and the generators by the four diesel engines simultaneously or some of them according to the uses on board. The author shows up the advantages obtained by such equipment for the rational improving of a fishing-smack on high-sea.
