The supercharging of diesel engines tenders possibilities of gains in weight and location very much appreciated in railway traction where axle load and clearance limit impose intransgressible boundaries. Nevertheless, when the rate of supercharging becomes high, the gain in location is limited by the increasing of cooling radiators. The traction Diesel engine must also have a torque as constant as possible; supercharging decreasing deeply the torque at low speed, it ensues some restrictions in use which, however, by some adjustments, cannot be a cause of cancellation. The economical interest of the supercharging is shrunk by the turbocharger's vulnerability. This handicap must, indeed, be eliminated.
