The report aims to give a glance of diesel railway traction development in France and to clear actual tendencies of it. Earliest applications of diesel engines to railway motive power unite began in 1932 on railcars and some light powered locomotives. The authors draws attention in his comments to the evolution of these units before and after World War II. Whereas, in French North Africa and Commonwealth main line diesel traction goes on increasing, in metropolitan France diesel traction bends to railcars, switchers and transfer locomotives.
