The University of South Florida (USF) operates a fleet of electric vehicles (EV's) with the capability to either charge the EV's from the utility grid or a direct DC-DC charge from a 20 kWh photovoltaic (PV) carport. The fleet consists of a wide variety of EV's with each type of EV having its own unique conversion platform and features. They include regenerative braking, air conditioning, battery configuration and type, etc. Also, EV's with 120V battery packages can be charged with a USF designed computer controlled PV DC-DC charger (DC-DAS). USF has designed and developed an onboard EV mobile data acquisition system (MDAS), which monitors the pertinent parameters desired for EV analysis, without human involvement. Similarly the DC-DAS collects the PV charging system data. Software has been written (EV-SOFT and PV-SOFT) to evaluate the collected EV and PV data respectively, so an objective analysis can be obtained. EV-SOFT and PV-SOFT allow the user or researcher the ability to run a wide variety of experiments, to have instant access to the data collected, and to objectively analyze this data to formulate decisive conclusions. The analysis of data obtained from a network of EV's, using PV-SOFT and EV-SOFT will be presented in this paper. The results indicate that the DC-DAS is more efficient than DC-AC-DC and AC-DC charging.
