A Ni-Fe battery for EV has been developed. It is applicable for a cold northern district and characterized having high energy density, ling life time and low probability of pollution. A mixing ratio of the reduced iron powder and the electrolytic iron powder was examined, then highly effective and longer lifetime iron plate has been achieved. Also a high capacity nickel plate has been obtained filling active material at high density by the chemical filling method under reduced pressure. Using these plates, Ni-Fe batteries for EV were constructed and evaluated. These batteries demonstrated superb driving performance during the onboard test. In addition, a battery charger and a charge indicator for this battery have been developed.
