The car body performances towards comfort, fatigue life, handling are closely depending on structural joints statical performances in term of stiffness and strength. Starting from car body global performances goals, come out 'subsystems targets' and specifications and requirements for the car body joint design. In order to get the optimal design of the joint, taking care the time to market, it's necessary both a reliable method for joint predictive simulation and an effective design criteria to get the optimal solution. The simulation reliability has been got with test criteria of refined F.E. modeling and with specific tools for the mesh quality check. Interpretation criteria for stress and displacement evaluation and D.O.E. techniques, have been developed in order to obtain the best benefits from the FEM analyses that allow to find out and eliminate structural criticities throughout the understanding of structural behaviour. Validation tests have been carried out in order to verify that theses interpretation criteria are generally applicable and allow to get the optimal solution for each body joint. With a broad application of the previous mentioned methods, integrated by a complementary approach that regards, the whole car body analysis, it becomes possible to better understand behaviour and structural contribution of each single joint.
