The aim of the development of vehicles or vehicle components has always been to meet the demands of the market or the customer. These demands include not only the essential target parameters of technical constitution and product price but also quality factors such as reliability, comfort, ease of repair etc. This paper outlines various example methods of quality assessment, such as CFD, FMEA and DOE, and explains the mathematical statistics involved, with the aid of practical examples. In particular, various methods of reliability theory are discussed, with descriptions of accelerated and overload tests on component and engine test stands. Finally, the question of test on board the vehicle is addressed. Indications are given on the vehicle. Examples of quality features demanded by customers include the reliability and life of the vehicles.
