Auto-body surfaces are mostly constructed by complex surfaces. In actual surface measuring, we usually measure points on several measuring lines which control the source. These measuring lines distributed in an approximate equil distance along a certain direction. Combining the theory of 3rd power nonuniform B-spline, this paper detailly discusses the fitting procedure of complex surface in the present condition, including the determination of the parameter of the independent variable, the formula of the surface function, the calculation of B-spline and the application of the multi-knot technique. Combining auto-body surface modelling, this paper gives examples to describe the application of this method.
