Sheet steel body panels can be designed for improved quality and manufacturability by the application of sheet steel products with appropriate mechanical and formability properties. Although a variety of sheet steels is available for any given part, the choice of the 'right' steel grade for a specific part is largely dependent on the part's performance characteristics, manufacturing considerations, part design and cost effectiveness. When all engineering criteria are evaluated, one steel grade, which satisfies all of the formability requirements, will stand out above all others. Use of this steel, in conjunction with appropriate part design and forming practice, will enhance both the manufacturability and the part quality, and will do so in a cost effective manner.
