Recently Active Control Technology (ACT) has been applied to the improvement of the dynamics of ground vehicles, such as automobiles and railway vehicles. In this paper, actively controlled air suspensions are studied theoretically and experimentally. At first, the optimal regulator theory isapplied to one D.O.F. model of the active air suspension to improve the vibration isolation of vehicle body. Next this active suspension is applied to the two D.O.F. model of the magnetically levitated system. According to the experiment results, the performances of dynamic stability and vibration isolation are much improved and agree with the theoretical results.
