The use of thermoplastic engineering resins in today's automotive lighting industry is reviewed. The impact of new design trends and technological innovations on material profiles is analyzed. Superior products are discussed which provide higher heat resistance, better surface definition, and better processability to meet the requirements of future applications. A new amorphous high-heat polycarbonate resin is presented which combines the lens-quality optical properties of polycarbonate with a significantly higher heat distortion temperature.
