The increasing emphasis by automotive manufacturing companies on N.V.H. performance of their products, with particular attention being paid to interior noise, had led to the recent development of various acoustic FE analysis techniques. The latest releases of ABAQUS have enabled the modelling of coustic cavities in 2D and 3D with solid or flexible boundaries and the coupling of acoustic modes to structural modes. This allows the prediction of structure borne noise levels (in dB) at any point within the cavity. This paper discusses the acoustic analysis techniques used by H.W. Structures.
