Some years ago ABS systems were introduced on the commercial vehicle market and have reached a high development standard. With regard to the efficiency of the sensors actually used today's leading ABS systems are reaching their physical limits. In this field hardly any improvements can therefore still be expected. However, improvements are still achievable with respect to fault liability and detection and error handling. The system presented herewith is a system which - with the latest and efficient handware - allows to materialize a safety concept which sets a new standard. This paper deals in particular with the improvements than achieved in case of failures of peripheral components. The progress made in the field of electromagnetic compatibility will be published in the near future.
