An existing requirement of the car industry is to deliver to the end user different variations and combinations of features on the car, such as left- or righ-hand drive, exhausts, antennas, etc. For economic reasons, the required combinations should be incorporated into the car body as late in the production line as possible. This obligates the manufacturer to prepare the body to meet the maximum number of possibilities, while allowing the maximum flexibility in the final definition of each car body. If conventional techniques are used, many openings are cut into the body early in the manufacture; some of these openings must later be closed, at high cost, when the final variations are selected. The Robolaser is a flexible tool which makes possible the opening of the required vents in the final stages of manufacture, providing savings in time and labor.
