This paper describes the implementation of two self-tuning control algorithms for the speed control of a permanent magnet DC motor. The algorithms minimize a cost function incorporating system input, output, and set-point variation for reference tracking. Variable forgetting factor using data normalization with constant trace has been utilized. Self-tuning controllers have been implemented using a single-chip digital signal processor (DSP). It results in reduction of system hardware, cost, and calculation time.
