Proceeding from the principle contradictions and trends in the development of a terrestrial energy system, the proposal to alleviate the problem of fuel and energy supply by shifting to partial (up to 10 TW of total capacity) space-based power generation with remote power transmission to Earth is substantiated. More detailed coverage is given to the first stage of space-based power system development, including a space-based lighting system relaying power at the 10 GW capacity level through space reflectors, and yielding a power supply to Earth's individual regions at up to the 1 MW capacity level.
