The author describes the design of an auxiliary power supply for Dutch double decker train applications. Bus voltages of 500, 380 and 110 V are used. With the system of several bus voltages running through the train, the power converters can be located in relatively small spaces in the motorcars, and the equipment (inverters and compressors for airconditioning, cooling fans for the drive, etc.) can be mounted locally. The bus systems are supplied from both ends in order to obtain the necessary redundancy.
