Rear wheel steering systems provide reduced turning circles at low speed and improved dynamic stability in high speed ranges. Using the techniques of modern electronics to meet these aims, a rear wheel steering system has been realized and tested. The authors describe the ECU of such a system, its configuration and its steps of development. A general overview is given to explain the whole system function and its main components which consist of the electronic control unit (ECU); the actuator; a position sensor; a steering wheel angle sensor; a wheel speed sensor; a tacho sensor; and a pressure sensor.
