The authors show how a linear ASIC technology satisfies many of the previously unfulfilled requirements of automotive systems. Taking a real example of an automotive oil level sensor, the principle of combining high performance analog circuitry with digital electronics is examined. This application shows how many simple automotive functions may achieve a single chip solution with such a technology. Concerns such as transient voltage capability and temperature performance are considered together with design techniques and simulation capabilities.
