Decoupling control of the refrigeration system for an automotive air conditioner has been successfully designed. By applying new actuators and a simple precompensator appropriately gain-adjusted to the conventional system (which could not have been improved in its response due to large interaction), the time constant of air temperature at the outlet has been reduced to 28 s from 120 s. This result indicates that the proposed system can satisfy quick-response requirement, leading to enhanced comfort and energy savings.
