Industrial equipment and automobiles need a more heat resistant insulated wire for the purpose of miniaturisation of apparatus or improving performance of apparatus after the oil crises in 1973 and 1979. Fujikura have therefore developed an insulated wire using a ceramic coating. In the winding process, this wire shows flexibility as good as organic insulated wire. Having been wound, the wire is sintered. After sintering, the wound wire is changed to the ceramic coated wire and shows the characteristics of inorganic insulated wire in service. The characteristics and the practical application of the insulated wire to be converted to the ceramic coated wire are discussed.
