Receiving the signals from weather satellites and turning them into pictures is an excellent way of introducing students to satellite communications. It illustrates many of the problems and their solutions. The author describes the two types of weather satellite, geostationary and polar orbiting. The author then describes when and how weather satellite pictures can be received including a description of the equipment required.
