Most Soviet air defence weapon systems are surface-to-air missiles with the exception of the ZSU-23-4, a four-barreled anti-aircraft gun, and its unnamed replacement. In the last few years many of these systems have been replaced or modified. The Soviet air defence radar systems perform target acquisition, target height determination and fire control. Most of the aviation equipment that supports ground troops are combat helicopters like Hip, Hind, Havoc and Hokum. A recent helicopter modernisation program involved the addition of a self-protection jammer to selected aircraft.
