The design criteria, development, and research program associated with a multiplace-crew-system simulation facility is described. The strategic avionics battle-management evaluation and research (SABER) facility and the associated exploratory development program were established in order to support the resolution of technology-base issues in the area of intelligence fusion and analysis, command and control, adaptive mission planning, force management, and force element execution. The SABER facility consists of four advanced conceptual crew stations and a master experimenter station. SABER supports man-in-the-loop simulation experiments in which the dependent measures are associated with crew systems performance, crew workload, task allocation, dynamic crew tasking, tailored logic, crew situational assessment, and the evaluation of information portrayal schema.
