The diagnosis and repair problems posed by the increasing complexity of weapon systems are discussed. The US Navy Integrated Diagnostic Support System (IDSS), which provides a structured solution to diagnosis/maintenance deficiencies, is described. A concept definition of the tools and procedures involved in the IDSS program is provided.
