Impact modelling techniques have been used extensively to understand and simulate automobile crashes to optimise vehicle crashworthiness. Very little work has been done to evaluate the crashworthiness of vehicles designed and used exclusively in the less motorised countries. The paper reports the results of computer modelling exercises done to understand the behaviour of (a) safety of passengers in three-wheeled scooter taxis (TWST) in crashes against a bus, (b) safety of pedestrians in impacts with TWSTs, (c) safety of pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists in crashes against fronts of busses, and (d) safety of passengers in busses. All computer modelling has benn done using the MADYMO software.
