Although most of the existing designs of battery electric vehicles are excellent they are available only to a limited number of disabled people. With further improvements in design and performance - hopefully with a reduction in cost - and combined with a greater awareness of those in need it will be possible to improve the quality of life of many thousands more people. Those who have been disadvantaged by handicap or disablement, usually through no fault of their own, must surely have a right to take their place in society and to use their individual abilities not just for their own satisfaction and advantage but for the benefit of the community at large. Battery electric vehicles are contributing to this to a great extent though much remains to be done.
