The design paradigm of FLDE AutoStudio is based on a specially defined subset of fuzzy logic and is a CASE tool suite for the rapid development of embedded automotive control strategies from natural language specifications. FLDE comprises a high-level design and simulation environment as well as a robust C code generator that translates high-level designs into efficient C code that can readily be interfaced with other user C code. FLDE AutoStudio addresses the emerging class of automotive applications that are based on the intelligent integration of previously diverse subsystems. First the integration of engine management systems with transmission control to yield integrated powertrain management subsystems that incorporate identification of driving style, identification of driving situation and advanced diagnostics from virtual sensors. Second the integration of advanced braking systems such as the emerging brake-by-wire systems incorporating panic brake assistance and stability control and thirth the intelligent climate control systems that exploit information from door and windows and passenger occupancy to optimally respond to thermal perturbations. In this paper an overview of the basic concepts needed to design control strategies with FLDE AutoStudio will be presented.
