Recently, designs of in-car information, air conditioning, navigation functions and multimedia systems have become standard features in automobiles thereby, increasing demand for electronic displays. Vacuum fluorescent display's ( VFD's ) for automotive applications have been widely accepted in the USA, Japan and other countries because of their excellent capabilities such as high luminance, low voltage operation and high reliability. This paper will describe the technology in detail with particular emphasis on 12 volt battery drive VFD's, Head Up Displays and multi-function graphic VFD's.
