The development and use of standard interfaces within Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) will facilitate competition and hence drive down costs and enable the rapid deployment of new applications. Development of the required standards is progressing slowly. In the mean-time basic system incompatibilities may be resolved by the introduction of a service integrator function.
