Environmental testing is considered to be an integral part of the evaluation of vehicle security systems in support of the Insurance Industry's Vehicle Security Scheme. Through the Scheme, launched in January 1993, MIRRC Thatcham in conjunction with the Loss Prevention Council have been testing electronic vehicle securrty systems throughout the year with a view to recognising systems that perform to a defined minimum standard. This paper sets out to explain the rational behind undertaking an environmental test programme, to detail the regime, and to report on the general findings to date.
