This report presents a summary of the development and design of the liquid-cooled phosphoric acid fuel cell subsystem for bus. Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. has participated to DOE bus project and manufactured a liquid-cooled 25 kW brassboard fuel cell subsystem. Performance tests of the fuel cell/battery hybrid system were carried out successfully and very good results on performance and emission level were obtained. liquid-cooled fuel cell has many advantages such as smaller size, higher efficiency and easy heat recovery. These technologies will be applied to a 50 kW fuel cell subsystem for the test bed bus. The outline of the fuel cell subsystem are presented.
