With the integration of multiple high powered HF transmitters and sensitive receivers into a single airborne platform, interesting electrical phenomena can occur in the aircraft structure. Radio Frequency (RF) noise is generated as the structural memberrs of an aircraft change in impedance due to momentary pressure and vibrations on the aircraft while the structure is excited by an HF transmitter. This noise may then disrupt receive communications. This paper discusses the results of investigations into the phenomena and describes the interference problem in some detail. While this problem exists on all aircraft carrying high powered (1 kW) HF transmitters, the final solution for the problem has yet to be determined.
