The electrification of the mainline railway system in central Queensland is based on high voltage 50 Hz AC overhead feeders. The prospective inductive interference effects on Telecom's network have required a major reconstruction programme of the exposed copper cables. To meet the challenge of protecting the network against the electromagnetic induction some new types of plant have been developed and implemented.
