In this paper we describe CREWS, a crew scheduling system for an airline company. We discuss the steps identified towards having a full operational system, and the work accomplished so far. CREWS was developed for TAP - Air Portugal as a prototype, demonstrating the capabilities of applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques in crew scheduling problems. A system of this takes as input the list of every flight to be operated within a certain period of time and assigns crew members (both flight and cabin crew) to those flights, according to the international and national safety regulation rules, the airline rules and the strategy of the airline.
