Future civilian spacecraft will require multikilowatt and possibly multi-megawatt electrical power systems with many large and complex loads. In order to manage these large power systems, autonomous operation becomes a necessity. One of the operations to be automated involves matching the energy available to the energy required in a safe and secure manner. This operation is referred to as power flow control. This paper presents the results of a study undertaken by NASA/MSFC to determine and to implement load management techniques on autonomous spacecraft power systems and specifically the Autonomously Managed Power System (AMPS) Test Facility.
