The time interval between initial design and flight of a space launch vehicle instrumentation system is typically several years. During this period many changes in measurement requirements are made. Historically, these changes in system requirements have been accomplished by hardware changes, a method which is both costly and time consuming. To reduce the magnitude of these problems, a software programmable instrumentation system is being developed that may be utilized on many launch vehicles with a minimum of hardware changes. This paper will cover one part of this system: A programmable sixteen channel multiplexed digital signal processor using the TMS320 family of DSP chips. The processor has the capability to filter any of the sixteen input channels using any one of eight low pass frequency response characteristics, which range from 0.3 Hz to 40 Hz.
