The National Aerospace Laboratory 'NLR' is the operator of an aircraft which can be equipped with either a SLAR, a multi spectral scanner or a TV-based scanner. The airborne recording equipment is designed to accommodate these various sensors. The general airborne system setup is: the sensor, a dedicated digitizing unit and an interface to a High Density Digital Tape recorder. Aircraft parameters like position, attitude and time are recorded on the same tape. Flight tapes are replayed on existing equipment as used for PCM encoded telemetry data; only a High Bit Rate Decoding unit is added. Raw remote sensing data and flight data are transfered to computer tapes. The software system PARES (Preprocessing Airborne Remote Sensing) performs radiometric and geometric corrections for aircraft motion and for sensor characteristics.
