The author's investigation on the evolution of the glazing in vehicles leads to the result that in the last 20 years up to 1990, the increasing of transparent area has mainly been increased for roundish shaping trends of vehicles related to the need of better aerodynamical penetration of the car shape and also to enlarge the ratio between space and volume in the internal compartment. More recently, say since 1993, the concepts of all around visibility and personalization, as a present most important dimension of the car field, seem to be the driving forces to further increase the glazing area in front, back and lateral windows. Of course to quantify this increase for laminated and tempered glasses should be a task of more detailed investigation. The fundamental parameters of this investigation and the limits of the predicted glazing increase are described. Among the treated subjects, some attention has been particularly paid to the color coordination which should be considered a strong challenge to the glass makers. Of course new shaping and laminating technology should improve and reduce the cost of the glazing in order to suit the real need of increasing the glazing surface well accepted now by the designers and customers.
