Kohlenstoff/Kohlenstoff Verbundwerkstoffe finden aufgrund der Beibehaltung ihrer mechanischen Eigenschaften bei hohen Temperaturen Anwendung als Konstruktionswerkstoff in der Luft- und Raumfahrt. Die Arbeit berichtet ueber Herstellung, Eigenschaften und Anwendungen dieser Werkstoffe. Sie versucht Problemloesungen in Bezug auf hohe Herstellungskosten und geringe Oxidationsbestaendigkeit zu finden.
A retention of mechanical properties at high temperatures, superior to any other material, has resulted in the exploitation of carbon-carbon composites as structural materials in space vehicle heat shields, rocket nozzles and aircraft brakes. Additionally, properties such as biocompatibility and chemical inertness have led to new applications in medicine and industry. However, the full potential of these materials has yet to be realised due to prohibitive fabrication costs and poor oxidation resistance. This article reviews the production, properties and applications of carbon-carbon composites and attempts to show how they may be further exploited if the cost and oxidation problems can be reduced.
