As a result of faster development cycles combined with increasing product diversity, a simulation process for the development of car locks has been implemented. 3D-CAD car lock models are used as starting point of the simulation process. A VBA algorithm calculates relevant model parameters and saves these data together with the part geometries in a configuration file. In SimulationX, the configuration file is imported automatically and finally a simulation will be performed. The developed simulation model and the implemented automatization process reduce the development time and also the error rate. Furthermore the documentation effort is minimized and design evaluations are significantly simplified.
