Computer supported methods and tools are rarely used in practice in order to determine the requirements of a product. Therefore it is hard to track, which customer wishes or boundary conditions and restrictions had led to the identified requirements. Consequently the product designer faces the problem that he cannot interpret the requirements properly in order to develop the product in the course of the development process. This thesis presents the method IKonzept, which can be used to determine the requirements of a product and to establish an initial list of requirements. This method can be used by a single person as well as by a group of users in order to determine the requirements. The relation between the product environment and the product itself is retained in the process of using IKonzept. Thus the determination of the requirements can be traced afterwards. The process of determining requirements is presented by a basic approach. The method includes a computer based knowledge model, in which the product environment is connected to the product itself. In order to provide the user with customized knowledge, the user can access the knowledge within the model with the tool. This facilitates the access and reduces the time to receive the knowledge. To develop a first knowledge model for the method, a literature research is carried out to identify and to analyze existing methods for determining the set of requirements. Based on the deficits of the existing methods, the scientific objective is set for the new methods. In order to implement knowledge in the first place, the model is developed on the basis of a vehicle as an example. For this purpose the vehicle is introduced and is embedded in the production environment. Based on this example, the method, the computer supported knowledge model and the supporting tool is established. Alternative products are also taken into account during the development of the method. This ensures that the method IKonzept is also applicable to other products. Finally, the method is validated by various examples. Thus, the general usability of the method is shown. By applying the method IKonzept on other examples, the already existing knowledge is used in order to determine the list of requirements. Moreover, the new examples have a product environment, which is partly different from the previous analyzed products, therefore new knowledge is implemented in the model. Moreover, it offers benefits compared to the state-of-the-art methods. On the one hand the method can be used with the already existing knowledge, but on the other hand the method generates new knowledge in the process of it being used.
