This paper presents a new approach for cost-optimal operational strategies for hybrid electric vehicles. Therefore we calculate an operating strategy which minimizes the running costs during the whole vehicle life span. These costs are mainly described by the sum of fuel costs and costs due to the exchange of components. In our approach we focus on the replacement of the battery and mechanical brakes since the wearing of these components can be directly influenced by the operational strategy. We use "deterministic dynamic programming" (DDP) to calculate the minimal running costs. Additionally, this algorithm delivers the global optimal operational strategy for a given hybrid vehicle configuration. Finally, we demonstrate our method on a hybrid bus model and simulate different scenarios in form of a small parameter study.
