In aviation, the security is very important. For this reason, a redundant configuration of the safety-critical systems such as the emergency power supply of an airplane is absolutely necessary. In addition to the emergency power turbines (auxiliary-power-units) and generators (ram-air-turbine), batteries are used as an energy supplier for the emergency. This report compares several battery technologies, currently available on the market, in terms of their technical suitability for use in civil aviation. Particularly of interest are some specific parameters of the different types of Li-ion-batteries, ranging from the safety in use, to the development of a charging circuit which meets the requirements of aviation.
