Carbon-carbon composites, which is a low density material exhibit remarkable thermo-structural properties. This makes it an ideal choice for realising products/hot structures for aerospace applications which encounters hostile thermal environments. As part of the carbon-carbon product development for spacecrafts and launch vehicles, VSSCISRO is in the development of carbon-carbon composites by means of distinct processing routes and fibre matrix combinations based on the application. Mechanical properties of the same were evaluated both in ambient as well as at elevated temperature regimes. Analysis of the test results reveals that the process combining graphitised carbon preform with densified matrix structure can lead to enhanced thermo-structural properties.
