An extensive study was conducted to establish a methodology to estimate the effect of the ground motion on the underbody panels. Measurements were performed on a Hyundai Genesis in the FKFS full scale aeroacoustic wind tunnel of Stuttgart University. A very detailed Y4 scale model of the Genesis was also built and tested in the model scale wind tunnel of the FKFS. On the numerical side, both the full scale model and the Y4 scale model tests were replicated in simulation. The full scale model was simulated in the digital wind tunnel and the Y4 scale model was simulated in a replica of the model scale wind tunnel of the FKFS. Both the experimental and the numerical studies tested in the static and moving ground conditions. Four different underbody panels were used giving five different car configurations from no underbody panels mounted to all underbody panels mounted. By validating and comparing various results, important considerations to improve the accuracy of the estimation were pointed out and a possibility to predict the accurate effect of the ground motion using the numerical method was investigated.
